ghoul

This is an old revision of the document!

I've been in plenty of these old tombs and almost been killed by many a trap. That's why you should listen when I tell you this: a mechanism that sprays acid is scary, sure, but a mechanism that sprays barbecue sauce is far scarier.

Eating your own kind is taboo, and with the breaking of taboos come certain powers. Ghoul is one of those classes that's almost completely meant for monsters, not for players. I guess if somebody really wants to be a vampire or whatever then they could take levels in it, but only as long as everybody around the table is okay with that kind of stuff.

Ghoul

Utility plus-circleCannibalize: You can restore lost Vitality to yourself by taking what you need from corpses. Depending on context this might mean eating them, draining their blood or tearing out organs and stuffing them into your own chest cavity, but regardless of the method anybody who sees you doing it knows that you're a monster.

plus-circleClearly Food: If you cannibalize a creature, you don't have to spend any Supply/Commissary Kit uses to feed yourself that day. You've already eaten.

minus-circleChoice Meat: A corpse must be of your own or a similar species in order for you to cannibalize it for Vitality. You can only cannibalize relatively fresh corpses (or if they technically aren't a corpse yet, that's okay too- the process of feeding on them inevitably turns them into one).

minus-circleSavor Every Bite: You may only regain 1 point of Vitality per corpse cannibalized. Cannibalizing a single corpse requires a procedure to complete.

doubledSweeney Todd: If you also know the Supertaster ability from the Chef class, you can make and consume prepared meat cuts from members of your own or similar species in order to temporarily borrow their power.

Brain Eater

Utility plus-circleAbsorb Memory: After feeding on a corpse, you gain some of the deceased's memories and can answer any simple question that the subject would know the answer to (such as “where are the diamonds hidden?” or “what was their real name?”).

minus-circleFading Fast: After getting your answer, roll a trigger die. On a 7+, you may answer another question. On a 1-6, the memories have faded and you cannot ask any more. You can keep answering questions until you roll a 1-6, at which point you're done.

minus-circleVague Impressions: You cannot answer complex questions that would require more than a short phrase as an answer. All stolen memories automatically fade at the end of the session even if you didn't exhaust them by asking questions.
Utility plus-circleTongue Eater: After feeding on a corpse, you can speak all the languages known by the dead subject.

minus-circleLost Tongues: You lose all languages gained by this ability at the end of each session.

doubledMeaty Linguist: If you also know the Linguist ability from the Scholar class, temporarily gaining a language via this ability counts as having the full exposure and materials required to learn it permanently if you want.

Fetch

Utility plus-circleAbsorb Shape: After feeding on a corpse, you can physically change to resemble the person you just ate. This disguise is complete- your voice, your scent, and even your unconscious mannerisms match your victim's. Your behavior probably won't, though. Abilities that see the truth of things (such as Truesight from the Investigator class or Detect Evil from the Helsing class) can reveal who you really are.

minus-circleTransitory: You temporarily resume your true form whenever you use Ghoul to feed on a new corpse. If you ever choose to take the shape of a different victim, you cannot ever resume the shape of one you've shed.

Sanguine

Utility plus-circleHeart Eater: After feeding on a corpse, you temporarily increase one of your combat statistics (Melee, Remote, or Whelm) by +1 point.

minus-circleOverload Spill: Your additional combat statistics fade at the end of each session.

minus-circleLimited Ascension: You can only raise a given combat statistic by +1 if the victim you're feeding off of has a higher score in that statistic than you currently do. If theirs is equal to or less than yours, you gain no benefit.

Scourge

Offense plus-circleBlood Frenzy: You deal +2 damage with all attacks against any target that has the Bleeding condition.

plus-circleScent of Blood: You ignore all attack failure chances from concealment against any target that has the Bleeding condition.

Zest

Utility plus-circleStronger Faster: Your meals supernaturally enhance you with stolen life-force. After feeding on a corpse, you temporarily gain one class from the Agility or Toughness categories (pick randomly). If you already have the class that gets rolled up, you can choose an ability from it instead. Any dice rolled to determine which class is granted are not trigger dice and thus cannot be affected by any ability that alters trigger die rolls.

minus-circleFades Away: The class/ability gained from Zest fades and disappears at the end of the session.

minus-circleSolo Enhancement: You can only enjoy a single ability from Zest at a time. If you feed on another corpse before the effect wears off, you can choose whether to gain the new ability that gets rolled. If so, you lose the old one.

Enterprises

Ghoul School The settlement hosts an institution that teaches the secrets of this class for a small fee. Keystones of this class can be purchased here for 1 Supply each.
Pantry Adventurers that end a day in the settlement do not need to spend Supply or Commissary Kit uses to feed themselves. Commissary Kit items can be bought in the settlement for 1 Supply instead of 3.
