grinder

For a while I had to work as a professor at the university to support my treasure-hunting passion, which was all right other than the continuing expectation everyone has to this day that I should act respectably.

Most adventurers are assumed to pursue adventuring full-time for whatever reason, but a Grinder has a steady source of income from a much more respectable source. Being able to work as hard as a Grinder does is as rare a skill as any, and many of the Grinder's advanced abilities leverage that skill into useful tools for problem-solving.

Grinder You have a day job.
caret-right Elbow Grease Unjam operation dice.
caret-right Office Hero Make connections at work.
caret-right Overtimer Negate Stress.
caret-right Promotion Better pay.
caret-right Turnover Work anywhere.

Grinder

Utility plus-circlePay the Bills: In between adventures, you work a real job- nothing glamorous, but honest. You decide exactly what it is; check the chart below if you want some inspiration. At the beginning of each new session, you may collect your paycheck (minus expenses): 1-4 Dosh. Roll a die: 1-3 means 1 Dosh, 4-6 means 2, 7-9 means 3, 10+ means 4.

minus-circleNot Trigger Dice: The die you roll to determine how much Dosh your job brings you is not a trigger die and thus cannot be manipulated by any abilities that alter trigger dice.

plus-circleReplaceable: If you ever lose your job for any reason (like you and your adventurer pals needing to leave town in a hurry, maybe) you can easily find a new one doing pretty much the same thing anywhere you want (within civilization, anyway) with no questions asked.

minus-circleShould Be Obvious, But: If you have an adventurer with the Grinder archetype but don't play them for a session, they don't earn anything. Only active Grinders bring home a paycheck you can do anything with.

minus-circlePart-Timer: If you use a Grinder keystone to temporarily gain this archetype, your paycheck is always exactly 1 Dosh.

Elbow Grease

Utility plus-circleGreat, Another Mess: No matter how badly wrecked something is (whether physically, mentally, or socially), you know you can fix it… it's just going to take a lot of time and effort. You can attempt to unjam any die in any operation challenge by taking a procedure to do so.

minus-circleSupplies: Unjamming a die with this ability costs 1 point of Supplies.

minus-circleCheck Required: Roll a trigger die when unjamming a die with this ability. If the result is 5+, you succeed. If not, you don't and the Supplies/time spent are wasted (but you can try again if you like).

Office Hero

Social plus-circleMake Money, Make Friends: You're very skilled at getting along with your bosses and co-workers, allowing you to create a network of contacts quickly. At the beginning of each session when you collect your pay, you may also roll to increase your relationship with two different NPCs that you work with at your day job.

plus-circleGeneration: If you've already established some of your co-workers as NPCs, you can roll to improve your relationship with them as normal. If you haven't (or if you'd rather not), the referee or yourself can make some more up on the spot- give them a name, a brief description, and maybe an interesting fact or two.

plus-circleJust The Guy: You work with a lot of interesting people. Unlike most NPCs which are strictly under the control of the referee, you have some degree of metagame control over the backgrounds and talents of the friends you make from work. Once per session, you can declare that anybody you've befriended with this ability has a hidden talent, interest, or opportunity relevant to the situation at hand that they would be willing to use to help you out (such as “Richard speaks Estonian, he could translate this for us”, “Mariposa is actually half-elven, she could introduce us to an elf”, or “Dargo lives near the docks, he could let us crash there while we do the stakeout.”) The referee can veto anything that seems really bizarre or unlikely, but otherwise you're in charge here.

Overtimer

Protection plus-circleSleep Is For the Weak: You somehow balance regular work hours, a home life, and going on crazy-assed adventures all at once, which means you know how to push through difficulty when necessary. You can choose to spend 1 Mojo to completely negate gaining a point of Stress from any source and for any reason, not just dungeon exploration.

doubledOm Nom Nom: If you also have a level in the Chef archetype, you can choose to spend Provisions instead of Mojo to negate Stress with this ability if you'd rather.

Promotion

Utility plus-circleOh Boy, I'm Mr. Manager: Well, it's about time. You tend to bring home better results from your paycheck, rolling on the below chart instead of the normal 1-4 Dosh.

minus-circleCannot Be Temped: You cannot use a Grinder keystone to temporarily gain this ability.
Promotion Paycheck
1-2 1 Dosh
3-4 2 Dosh
5-6 3 Dosh
7-8 4 Dosh
9-10 4 Dosh + Grinder Keystone
11-12 4 Dosh + Gain 1 XP

Turnover

Utility plus-circleJack of All Trades: You can do pretty much any job you set your mind to so long as it doesn't involve too much advanced, specialized training you don't have. Any time you switch jobs, you can choose a completely different one to do if you want.
Utility plus-circleBeautiful Resume: You have so much experience both with work and interviewing to get it that you can get hired on at any establishment, business, mansion, or whatever else with no questions asked simply by saying you'd like to work there. It doesn't matter if they're actually actively hiring at the time or not- they still want you. This can be very handy for purposes of casing, infiltration, or espionage as well as providing you with your normal paycheck.

ability to temporarily gain any unlocked archetype for a procedural turn? “step up” compare wildcard from lunatic, gogo from mimic
