This is an old revision of the document!
Whoever super-scienced catgirls into being obviously wasn't thinking clearly. Sure they're cute and all, but they're also bloody awful to have as enemies since you've got to off them nine times to make it stick.
Limited automatic self resurrects, 1 only, +1 per level in this class. Using one allows you to gain a special ability based on death method, default being something like reapers tools (give undead something new)
maybe all the acquired power options are in the class itself, and advanced abilities simply give different perks/ways of dying
instead of specific deaths (like sword, strangled, etc) can expand to bigger categories like failure, protecting others, etc? or just give a lump sum of XP/free level up
or: make resurrects a renewable resource? solves the conceptual problem of having a class that loses utility

Protection | plus-circleI'll Be Back: The next time you die, you will automatically and inescapably return to life again in a safe location at the end of the session in which you died. It doesn't matter how utterly destroyed your body was or where it ended up; you have the ultimate mulligan. Not even getting killed by a creature that knows the Exorcist ability from the Helsing class is enough to keep you dead. minus-circleLimited Resource: The automatic resurrection from Pheonix can only happen once, ever. Once you're used it to escape death, you cannot do so again. |

Utility | plus-circleGandalf the White: Dying and coming back noticeably changes you somehow, both in terms of appearance and giving you capabilities you never had before. After using the self-resurrection afforded by this class, you immediately gain the abilities of another class. minus-circleRestricted Growth: Your new abilities must be from a class that you have never actually taken any levels in before, and the exact class in question must be approved by your referee. The best choices relate somehow to the manner or circumstances in which you died- for example, burning to death could give you the powers of a Firebug when you come back, drowning could make you a Mariner, dying as a result of doing something very stupid could make you a Fool, or being unable to accept death due to having something left unfulfilled could make you Chosen or maybe even Undead. plus-circleUnbound Potential: For all effects and purposes, you have taken a level in the selected class after dying (and can take further levels in it to learn advanced abilities from it if desired). This essentially allows you to ignore the usual restriction on only having one class/ability per level. minus-circleNo Level Gained: While you gain a new class just as if you'd leveled up, you do not actually level up after dying. Your current XP and level are unchanged, and you do not gain any additional points to combat ratings (Melee/Remote/Whelm) or maximum resources (Provisions/Supplies/Mojo). |

Protection | plus-circleThe Wheel Turns: You may die and return to life an additional +1 time. Doing so grants the abilities of a new class as normal for Pheonix. | |
---|---|---|
Protection | plus-circleGreen Mushroom: You can gain an unlimited number of additional self-resurrects. minus-circleLesser Reincarnation: Additional resurrections from the 1up ability do not grant free abilities when you use them. If you get killed by somebody that knows the Exorcist ability from the Helsing class, you cannot use a 1up to come back to life at all. You cannot use 1ups to bring others back to life using the Gift of Life ability. minus-circlePay2win: Gaining a new 1up resurrection costs 20 Dosh. |

Offense | plus-circleClassic Pheonix: When you are killed, you may “explode” in a rush of escaping life-energy. This deals damage to every enemy within 10 meters of your location equal to the current Escalation without harming your allies or anyone else that you do not wish to harm. Damage from Final Burst cannot be reduced or avoided in any way. doubledElemental Burst: If you have levels in any Elemental-type classes, your Final Burst also automatically inflicts matching elemental conditions to every target it damages. |

Protection | plus-circlePass To Thee: You may use one of your limited self-resurrections to bring back someone else that had died instead. As with your own deaths, it doesn't matter where they are or what state their body was in afterwards. You are altered by the experience (gain a new class) just as if you had died yourself. minus-circleRecent Passage: You can only use Gift of Life to bring back somebody who died during the current session. |
